The school has satellite campuses in Utica and Rome. Mohawk Valley Community College awards certificates and degrees in over 90 areas. The school has an average of more than 7,000 full and part time students.
Mohawk Valley Community College is also known as one of first community college that was found in New York State. The school was founded in 1946 as the New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences at Utica. The school was also just one of the five secondary schools established after the Second World War. The 2 year college offered degrees and programs that would lead to semiprofessional and technical employment in industry sand business.
Then in 1948, the State University of New York was established and authorized to be upgraded into one of the community colleges in the state. Then in 1950, the school became a constituent unit of the State University. The next year, the school was granted the authority to award Associate of Applied Science degrees.
MVCC’s campus also features several student services and amenities. Among them includes the newly opened dining hall, snack bar and a new cafe called Zest. All of the parts of Zest are operated by Sodexo. There are also over 40 clubs and organizations on campus,including the popular Black Student Union (BSU) and the International Club and Ski Club.
The school is also known to host the MVCC Cultural Series. The series features comedians, musicians, magicians, movies, theatre to the local community. Most of the famous local artists and bands have performed at MVCC Series. Among such artists include The Band Perry and Shontelle, Edwin McCain, and comedian Brian Regan.
